Naima Obaitori – In The Land of Peace – A Visual Representation

When you come to her shows you’ll definitely get a little bit of this and that…

…and your emotions will soar from laughter to tears so you’ll never be bored, she’s got something for everyone.

Naima hails from the Windy City and her vocal versatility ranging from R&B, pop to rock and jazz have been heard from the Cotton Club in Chicago to inspirational music at the BB King’s Gospel Brunch.

As a songwriter (whose writing partner is the amazing Alex Alessandroni) Naima writes in various genres, but her heart is in Jazz.

Her jazz roots started in traditional style and her personal favorites are Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Nancy Wilson.

Currently she is working to make her jazz more “danceable” in the styles of Jill Scott, Sade and Erykah Badu.

I spent 5 minutes with Naima before a show. As one of the founders of The Jazz Gumbo Project her vision of Jazz performance is what this site is about.
